Introducing the architects

On July 5th, we will have two of the architects from MEB with us, Charles Darby and Mark Edison. They will be working with us on the Buildings Development Project as we move into the next stage of making sure we have fully captured all the things we need to change to ensure the buildings fully enable our mission and vision.

We want as many people as possible to stay after the service for a picnic lunch, followed by short “clinics” to help Mark and Charles get to know us better and understand the challenges we want to address. We expect these to be complete by around 2pm, so you will still have the afternoon free.

Please make a note of this date, we look forward to seeing as many people as possible on the day.

Mental Health Awareness Week: 11th – 17th May

What is Mental Health Awareness week?
Mental Health Awareness Week is a week-long campaign that takes place every year in May. This year it takes place 11-17 May 2026. It highlights the importance of good mental health, challenges stigma and promotes practical actions people can take to support their own wellbeing.
It’s one of the most high-profile public health campaigns in the UK.

How can we help ourselves and those we love?
· Start Small – Don’t try to fix everything at once; one small step can make a big difference.
· Talk to Someone – A simple conversation with a friend, family member, or colleague can lighten the load.
· Create Space to Rest – Step away from constant noise and busyness, even for a few quiet minutes each day.
· Stay Connected – Loneliness grows in isolation; community, church, and friendship matter deeply.
· Be Honest About How You’re Doing – You don’t have to pretend you’re fine. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Buildings Strategy Update – April 2026

In 2025 we started to look at our strategy for our 3 main buildings (The Church, the Old Vic and the Hall). We have identified the main challenges – accessibility, parking, toilets, poor kitchens, heating, lighting and storage space. While we have maintained the buildings to a reasonable standard, they are now due for a major refresh to ensure they are fit for purpose for the coming decades, and flexible enough to meet our future needs.

Since our last update a couple of months ago, we have had written responses from 4 architects and have interviewed each of them. As a result, we have now appointed MEB Design Ltd to work with us to explore the feasibility of making improvements to the buildings to ensure we are able to fulfil our mission into the middle of this century.

We need to do this properly, so it will take a little time. We will start by gathering more input from the key users of each building and the owners of our mission action plans. It is going to be important that we catch the vision of what’s next, rather than just assuming what we are doing today will continue as it is for the next 20 years. It’s going to be exciting!

Once we have a very clear “Statement of needs” outlining our requirements in more detail, then we can start exploring options for change. We will ensure we consult fully with all the statutory approvals bodies, as well as with our congregation and neighbours. This is probably not going to be until 2027, so please be patient and get involved so you can share your thoughts on what we need to move forward with our mission and vision.
