The buildings strategy team is led by Alan Nunn, with our Wardens (Lyn and Dave), Charles, and Mike Simpson (Chartered Surveyor) as members. Our brief is to review all of our main buildings (The Church, Old Vic and Hall) and work with an architect to develop plans for them to fully support our Church’s mission and Vision for the coming decades. While the buildings are maintained regularly, all need significant work (Heating system, bringing kitchens / bathrooms up to modern standards, addressing accessibility and energy efficiency). The project started around a year ago and the first step was to gather input from the congregation which we did at the Annual Church Meeting last year.
We issued a briefing document to 4 architects in November, and they have responded with their approach and initial ideas. The team have been reviewing these and will meet with the architects over the coming weeks so we can fully understand their proposals and make a decision on which one to appoint. The team will make a recommendation to the PCC who will formally appoint the architect. Please pray that we will appoint the right architect for this time.
We will be asking Mission Action Plan owners, and main users of each building, for more specific input as the project progresses. This will be a long project as planning permissions are likely to be the main challenge for us, but we will be looking for smaller things we can change sooner, and will keep you up to date with regular feedback as we progress.
